$6,000 Goal
In 2006, the Hughesville Library moved to its current location on South Fifth Street. The board of trustees worked tirelessly to raise the funds to build a new library. Since then, the collection has expanded to include audiobooks, DVDs, graphic novels, e-books, STEM kits, and more. There are spaces for community events and meetings, public computers to use, and ways to access to a wide variety of newspapers and magazines. Over 40,000 items were checked out from our library last year, and our computers and free Wi-Fi were used over 14,000 times.
Your tax-deductible donation—no matter its size—will benefit the library and continue to enrich the community by allowing us to offer essential services including but not limited to technology and internet access, programs for all ages, and circulation of materials beyond books.
Trout in the Library
For the second year, we hosted our "Trout in the Library" program. This collaborative effort between HAPL, Trout Unlimited, and local conservation chapters means that we raise trout from eggs inside the library! The trout hatch and grow inside a 55-gallon tank before being released into a local stream. Raising and releasing the trout is a team effort, and it allows us to teach kids about life cycles, how to care for animals, and how to evaluate watershed health. Pictured at left is State Trooper Evanchick, who helped release the trout this year.
Community Partnerships
In 2025, we partnered with The Bloomsburg Children's Museum, Science Heroes, the Alzheimer's Association, BLaST IU17, Reptiland, Centered Earth, Otto Bookstore, and more. Each of these community partners helped us bring unique educational opportunities to the library. Pictured at left, Simon from Science Heroes teaches kids about chemical reactions in an interactive show.
Meet our adopted cow, Fluff!
Why would a library adopt a cow? Besides the fact that she's adorable, partnering with Discover Dairy for the Adopt-A-Cow program allows us to teach kids about agriculture, the science of dairy, and career paths involving farming. Fluff is a Holstein calf born last September, and she already weighs over 200 pounds!
