RE: Raise the Region" March 12 6 PM through March 13 midnight

In early spring the Union County Historical Society takes part in a lively fundraiser called Raise the Region. For a 36-hour period (March 12 through 13) any person with a credit or debit card can donate any amount more than $25 to any of the participating non-profit organizations, including the Union County Historical Society! Donations, which are tax-deductible, must be made electronically through the web site www.Raisethe Region.org.

If you have participated in the past, we thank you very much and hope you will donate this year also.

Our new Museum and Gallery: Two years ago we acquired what was the Packwood House Museum (which, by the way is on the National Register of Historic Places). In addition to this historic museum building, the property includes the former Tour Center (now The Gallery), as well as an enclosed garden and a lovely brick terrace. We, and the Lewisburg Arts Council, together and separately, have been offering a variety of educational and social events in this central downtown Lewisburg setting at Market and N. Water streets.

While these buildings provide an appropriate historic setting for fulfilling our mission, the buildings themselves are not in good condition.

This is how you can help right now with Raise the Region! A good 40 percent of relevant grants call for matching funds. We often need to overlook these grants because we don't have the financial resources to contribute half of the needed funds. But let's see what we can do with your donation! Lets say that we need to replace an outside door for The Gallery which will cost $200. A matching grant would provide half the needed amount, in this case $100, and the other half would be met with donated funds. Your gift is doubled! And we have a new outside door! What else is needed? An ADA-compliant ramp into The Gallery which would allow  access to our exhibits and program for everyone. It's on the top of our to-do list. Design and construction are costly. Your gift would make construction possible.
