The Power of Conversation
Susquehanna Valley Mediation (SVM) strives to foster a strong and vibrant community by supporting constructive responses to conflict through mediation, facilitation, training, and education.
No one wants to face life's challenges alone. Founded in 2010, SVM's trained and dedicated staff and volunteer mediators facilitate conversations between co-parents, families, neighbors, co-workers, and people in reentry and recovery throughout the Susquehanna Valley. We help people have the conversations that matter, on their terms.
Programs That Make a Difference
We offer a variety of programs tailored to meet unique needs of our community, including:
Community Mediation: Helping parties discuss situations in a safe environment. Includes Court-Ordered Custody, Landlord/Tenant, and all Self-Referred mediations.
Crisis Rapid Response: SVM works as part of the Family Engagement Initiative alongside Union and Snyder Counties. When a crisis occurs involving a kiddo, we coordinate and facilitate the family's meeting, giving them a chance to find supports and use their voice.
Prison Reentry Services: Assisting those reintegrating into society after incarceration; offering a reentry journal, free family support meetings, and championing their recovery process.
Families in Recovery: Offers two support groups (Lewisburg and Middleburg), educational classes, and events for those in recovery and/or their families.
Children of Recovering Parents: Helping at risk teens navigate their personal or familial struggles.
Community Engagement: Offers events such as story circles, facilitated dialogue, workshops, and civic conversations.
Building a Stronger Community
Our success is the dedication of our volunteer mediators, who share their time and skills to support their neighbors. SVM offers a 40-hour comprehensive training to ensure mediators are equipped to facilitate sensitive and complex conversations. According to volunteers, volunteering with SVM is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact while gaining communication skills.
Susquehanna Valley Mediation helps community members have difficult conversations and address conflict through mediation, facilitation, and education.
