💬The Power of Conversation💬

Susquehanna Valley Mediation (SVM) aims to facilitate communication while offering volunteer opportunities for mediators in the Susquehanna Valley. SVM uses the Transformative Model of Mediation, which emphasizes the decision-making capabilities and dignity of the parties participating in the mediation.

Organized in 2010, SVM strives to build a stronger, more vibrant community by supporting constructive responses to conflict through mediation, facilitation, training, and education to residents in the SUN area.

Our Mission and Vision

SVM helps community members have difficult conversations and address conflict through mediation, facilitation, and education.

Programs That Make a Difference

We offer a variety of programs tailored to meet unique needs of our community, including:

  • Court-Ordered Custody Mediation: Helping parents discuss parenting plans in a safe environment.
  • Landlord/Tenant MediationGives landlord/tenant disputes the chance to be settled outside of court.
  • Self-Referral Mediation: Empowers individuals to affordably mediate difficult conversations.
  • Kids First ClassesAllows parents to educate themselves on effective communication and co-parenting strategies for the well-being of their kiddos.
  • Prison Reentry ServicesAssists justice-adjacent individuals reintegrate into society with an aim for lowered recidivism; including a reentry plan, free mediation, and championing their recovery process.
  • Families in RecoveryOffers two support groups (Lewisburg and Middleburg) for those in recovery and/or their families to navigate recovery as a family. FIR also hosts monthly sober events, free family mediation, and other educational programs.
  • Community Involvement: Offers events such as story circles, facilitated dialogue, and civic conversations.

Building a Stronger Community

Our success is the dedication of our volunteer mediators who generously share their time and skills to support their neighbors. SVM offers a 40-hour comprehensive training to ensure mediators are equipped to facilitate sensitive and complex conversations.

According to volunteers, volunteering with SVM is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact while gaining valuable communication skills.
