Rita's House Inc

The mission of Rita's is to support those who serve the vulnerable population in Snyder, Union and Northumberland counties.  The founders of Rita's House first recognized the need for those individuals who were released from prison to have a safe place to go with supports in place. When individuals are released from jail, many are homeless, new to sobriety, and, frankly, lost. Shelters are good for short periods of time, but offer little or no programs or counseling that many need. Eventually. Rita's House discovered the By Grace Transitional Home for Women.  Unlike a shelter, By Grace offers a program geared towards helping them in their sobriety journey, providing counseling, and learning lifestyle changes to carry them through life. Rita's started to donate to By Grace, as well as other organizations that serve vulnerable populations, and the Rita's House non-profit organization was born.  There is a need for organizations such as By Grace and other nonprofits, and Rita's House supports those organizations.  The following statistics prove the need for these nonprofit organizations,

• More than 30,000 people are held in county prisons or jails in Pennsylvania.
• Over 90 percent of the inmates incarcerated in PA state prisons will eventually be returned to the community.
• In our area, recidivism rate is 30%.
• Many of those individuals incarcerated, are substance abusers and psychiatrically troubled.
• Many individually have been physically and sexually abused.

As well as pouring into nonprofits in our area who need our support, Rita's House today is the site of N.A. and A.A. meetings, a safe place for counseling, and a sober house place for celebrations.  We will  open our doors to those struggling with addiction, abuse, abandonment and loneliness.  With continued donations, we hope to be able to serve those nonprofits who are working hard to change the lives of men and women in our area.
