McBride Memorial Library is a 501c3 public library in Berwick, Pennsylvania, that provides free literacy, connection, and life enrichment services to Berwick and its neighbors. It strives to respond to community needs with both traditional and modern services that public libraries are uniquely qualified to offer. Precious opportunities to read and gain knowledge, as well as take advantage of literary and cultural enrichment for children, teens, and adults, can be found within—and brought forth into the community from—the McBride Library.
An especially beloved outreach service offered by the library is Books on Wheels!
Books on Wheels is a service that brings the McBride collection to people who cannot visit the library. The twenty-two year old, well cared for (and still running like a charm) Books on Wheels van pays visits to assisted living and nursing homes; age-, ability-, and income-based apartment complexes, and private homes on a regular basis. Items delivered by van include fiction and nonfiction, large print books, magazines, and CD audiobooks.
Eligible patrons include residents of Berwick Borough, Briar Creek Borough, Briar Creek Township, Nescopeck Borough, and Salem Township who cannot travel to the library due to illness, injury, disability, or being homebound, even if temporarily.
Current locations visited by Books on Wheels include the following:
Celebration Villa of Berwick
Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center
Monroe Estates
Rosewood Apartments
Evan Owen Apartments
Individual Residences
This service is offered to a grateful community for FREE, but cannot happen without your generosity. Your support allows the library to purchase materials, especially large print books, that bring joy to these patrons. Your generosity also helps to keep the wheels turning: the Books on Wheels van requires routine maintenance, fuel for the journeys, and on occasion—new tires.
The library does a lot on a shoestring and every penny counts. McBride is grateful for a community that values literacy and cares for its neighbors so well.
Won't you consider supporting this outreach program?
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support!
