Who We Are

Central Susquehanna Sight Services (CSSS) provides central Pennsylvania residents who are blind or visually impaired with the supportive programs and services needed to live fulfilling and self-sufficient lives in their own homes. Services are provided in Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union Counties.  Our vision screening and educational programs proactively target the approximately 50% of blindness that is preventable through early detection of vision problems and education on eye health.

80% of all learning is visual!!!  Our vision screening program provides vision screenings from 6 months through preschool age children.  If a child is identified as having a possible vision issue, a referral is made for a professional eye examination.  Hear from some of the parents of the children we have screened:

From Kathie

I am a client of Central Susquehanna Sight Services, and I would like to take a moment to say how much I appreciate the services I have received from this valuable organization. I have been associated with them since 2010, and I have learned and accomplished several goals with their help. For instance, they prepare very informative life skills lectures that not only keep us updated on available technology, different means of transportation, and unique life skills, they value out input on what interests us as a group. CSSS is an extremely valuable organization, and I hope to continue learning how to navigate my vision loss for many years to come.

From Lauren P:

“I'm thankful that he had the opportunity to have an exam through Pre-K CSIU because I would've never realized that he had a problem with vision. So with this information and exam, we were able to have him seen early in hopes that we can correct his vision to help with his learning.”

“He will be receiving glasses and seems excited to wear them during certain times (school and screen time).”

 From Chlyoe:

“Thank you all so much for doing this at my daughter’s pre-school. I’ll be honest-I wasn’t going to take her as I felt like she was only in preschool and hasn’t complained of having any issues seeing anything or didn’t show any signs, but after a second letter of checkup from you I decided to go ahead and schedule her for a checkup. I figured it wasn’t going to hurt. I’m glad I did now, knowing that she does, in fact, need glasses. I’m hopeful that catching it early, we can correct her vision. She is to get her glasses then have a 3 month check up to see if she is improving. So Thank you for doing these exams and also being persistent in checking up.”
