$40,000 Goal
All funds over $15,000 will directly support needed projects to maintain our facilities at Camp Karoondinha for year-round use and our annual resident camp that is conducted over four weeks in the summer. The projects to be funded include: 1) replacing the broken A/C system in our Campmaster (resident camp HQ) building, 2) replacing the roof of two storage sheds for program equipment (Aquatics and Archery), 3) replacing the broken ice machine in the dining hall, 4) repairing the walk-in cooler for our dining hall, 5) replacing the worn out flooring in our Edna Sheary Lodge (the largest and most used facility year-round), and 6) a backup generator for our dining hall in the event of power loss (as happened last summer during resident camp) to maintain power to key systems such as the refrigerator and freezer units and well pump for camp wide water supply. Our desire is to fund and complete all these projects before resident camp this summer.
Please help us reach or exceed our goal to deliver fun and exciting learning and growth experiences to the youth in our community.
The Susquehanna Council serves more than 1,400 youth through the leadership of 600 adult volunteers. Scouting provides programs to youth in five counties in Central Pennsylvania – Clinton, Lycoming, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union. The Council welcomed girls into our programs in 2019, and the Council has welcomed multiple female Eagle Scouts since 2022!
The Council is also home to beautiful Camp Karoondinha along Penns Creek in western Union County. Each summer we provide exceptional programming to Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA and Venturers. We are building character in the youth of our communities, one child at a time.
About Scouting America
Scouting America is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 1.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers. It was founded in 1910, and since then, more than 110 million Americans have been participants in Scouting America programs at some time. Scouting America is part of the international Scout Movement and became a founding member organization of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922.
Scouting America's goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to instill typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoor skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking.
Every Scout whether they are Lion Cubs (5 years old) or Scouts nearing their 18th birthday, is required to participate at least once a year in a project that benefits the community they live in. This service is given to another non-profit organization, to the town, village, or county. Past projects have included Wreaths Across America, the placing of flags on veterans' graves before Memorial Day and removing them after Veterans Day, food or clothing drives, shoveling snow for elderly citizens, etc. In 2024 we had 37 Scouts complete their Eagle Scout Leadership Projects, where they developed a project and provided leadership to Scouts and adults to complete the needed project in their local communities. The combined total of these projects were over 6,700 hours to local communities!
