Who We Are

American Rescue Workers (ARW) is a nonprofit organization providing hunger and homelessness prevention services across Central Pennsylvania since 1934. ARW cares holistically for men, women, and children who find themselves in an emergency situation or homeless crisis by providing food, shelter, social services and hope.

Annually American Rescue Workers provides shelter to over 700 homeless men, women, and children. ARW also provides over 76,000 meals to shelter residents. A 3-day emergency supply of food is provided to 1,000 families in our community per month. This represents a 60% increase from pre-Covid numbers. Over $200,000 is also used to offer rental assistance and utility assistance to help keep families in their homes, preventing homeless crisis' from occurring.

American Rescue Workers is primarily funded by the resale and recycling of donated items in all 10 of ARW's thrift store locations. Other critical funding comes from grants and generous foundation, individual, and corporate donations.
