$30,000 Goal
After three decades, our Conductor and Music Director Bill Payn will be taking his final bow from the podium at the end of this season. The chorale has prospered during his tenure; elevating our standards, reaching new benchmarks, and making a greater impact throughout the communities we serve and the choral music world. So...what better way to honor his contributions than dreaming bigger than we ever have before...$30,000 in 30 hours for 30 years of dedicated service to SVC!
Empathy, compassion, and human connection have always been a common thread in our programs, and one we feel resonates universally. How we relate to our fellow neighbor, our sense of identity, and the way we express ourselves is what makes for a diverse and enriched society. Recently, one of our singers shared her thoughts on why she felt it was important to support the local arts scene.
"The current digital age can be isolating, and we need real-life experiences. Attending a performance together creates a shared bond and a chance to get out and connect with others. We need the arts to be a mirror for our human lives, to inspire us, and to help us understand ourselves and each other. As far as live music, it’s the real-life “surround sound” that you experience with your whole body. You can’t get that from a pair of headphones."
Thankfully, we are proud to say that SVC will continue moving forward with an equally focused and inspired vision under the leadership of our incoming Conductor and Music Director, Caleb Hopkins. This transition marks a momentous occasion in the chorale's history, and one that should be celebrated. While venturing into the unknown can certainly be trepidatious, we feel confident that our singers are in the best possible hands to guide SVC into this exciting new chapter.
We hope you can join us next weekend for our performance of Verdi Requiem in collaboration with the Williamsport Chamber Choir. Over 120 voices, 50 orchestra members, 4 soloists, an incredible dramatic work - what more could you ask for?
Sunday, March 22, 3pm. Tickets are available online or at the door.
Save the date for our final concert of the season - POPS - The Best of 30 Years Part II. Saturday,
May 2, 7:30pm. Weber Chapel Auditorium, Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove.
