What is the Susquehanna Greenway?

The Susquehanna Greenway is a planned corridor of parks, trails (both land and water), state forests, historic sites, and communities that run along the Susquehanna River and its West Branch in Pennsylvania.

This green ribbon of open space offers countless opportunities to get outside and explore all that the region has to offer. Once complete, the Susquehanna Greenway will become the largest greenway in Pennsylvania, allowing residents and visitors to walk, bike, or paddle from town to town along the river.

Who is the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership?

The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership is the only nonprofit tasked with implementing the vision of the Susquehanna Greenway. We coordinate with state, county, and local partners to envision and advance projects throughout our region that 'Grow the Greenway.' We also offer resources to connect residents and visitors to trails in their backyard through our online interactive map, annual paddling and biking events, and trail itineraries and maps. 

The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership also serves as the state appointed Water Trail Manager of the 228-mile West Branch and the Lower North Branch of the Susquehanna River Water Trail from the Luzerne County line to Sunbury. 

How does the Susquehanna Greenway positively impact my community? 

Our region's trails, boat launches, and parks have served an important role for communities and our collective mental and physical wellbeing. We have a very high quality of life here in the Susquehanna River Valley, and the Susquehanna Greenway is an integral part of increasing that quality of life and promoting outdoor activity and healthy lifestyles in your backyard. 

The Susquehanna Greenway provides a plethora of benefits to residents and communities. It encourages physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, links river communities through a networks of walking and biking trails, provides opportunities for outdoor recreation, and preserves culturally and historically valuable areas. Recent Projects of the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership

		West Branch Map: This series of waterproof folding panels is a great tool for paddlers to have in their back pocket as they explore the winding waters of the 228-mile West Branch. Inside is a detailed inventory of boat launches and river features, suggested itineraries, and information about the unique history and ecology of this section, from its lumber heritage to wild elk herd. 		Susquehanna Greenway Cleanup: In 2025, SGP will be working with partners in our Susquehanna Greenway communities throughout the region to host cleanup events in honor of Earth Day and the Susquehanna Greenway Cleanup effort. In years past, over 3,300+ volunteers have removed over 97,000 lbs. of litter from communities and the Susquehanna River. Learn more.
		West Branch Paddle Club: In 2020, SGP launched the West Branch Paddle Club, a program that offers resources and incentives for paddling all 228 miles of the West Branch. The club also provides a platform for paddler to engage with one another and discover new sections of the water trail within a group. Click here to learn more about the club and how to join.
		Photo Contest: In 2025, SGP will host the 14th Annual Susquehanna Greenway Photo Contest to celebrate the beauty and resources of the Susquehanna River and the roles our open spaces have played amid the pandemic. SGP also continues to manage the traveling gallery that features the past winners of the photo contest. A schedule of locations for 2025 is available on our website.
		Paddling Events: Each year, SGP hosts single-day paddling events to help introduce the public to on-water recreation within the guidance of a group paddle. This year's events include Paddler's Toolkit Workshops and single-day Susquehanna Sojourns. View the 2025 event lineup here.
		Water Trail Stewards: In 2025, the Susquehanna Greenway Water Trail Stewards will again work along the Susquehanna Water Trail system to monitor and manage the network of boat launches to help ensure safety and paddling experiences. Click here to learn more about this opportunity.
		2025 Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo: On August 2, 2025, SGP invite outdoor enthusiasts to Shikellamy State Park for an Outdoor Expo featuring workshops, clinics, presentations, gear, and more with over 50 booths to explore.
