Newberry Branch of NGA

The Newberry Branch of NGA was founded in 1914 and is still active 112 years later!  We provide NEW clothes, coats, shoes, linens, and personal care items to people in need, primarily children, throughout the Greater Williamsport Area.  We understand that NEW clothes bring about dignity, confidence, and tell a child: 'You are worthy. NEW clothes provide a sense of well-being and increased self-esteem (similar to how you feel when you find that perfect outfit! 😊) In 2025, we provided these items to 566 named individuals. We were also able to distribute over 10,000 items through bulk distributions and clothing give aways. We are a dedicated group of 11 members that work year round raising funds and purchasing clothing, linens and personal care items to fill the hundreds of requests we receive. 

Our work goes beyond just clothes, however.  We are striving to solve the real life issues school age children and others face that come from not having new clothing.  Issues such as: feeling excluded, invisible or rejected; bullying and chronic absenteeism; significant drop-out risk; hygiene related health issues; lack of protection from bad weather. We believe that clothing is a basic human right and that every child is worthy of having clothes that make them feel confident and secure.

While our work is often done "behind the scenes", we are told stories that warm our hearts and motivate our work.
