The John Buck Memorial Community Food Bank was founded in 2000 after the passing of John Buck, a long-time Orange Township supervisor. John’s family generously donated the seed money to start the food bank. This year we celebrate our 25th year of service as we continue to honor John’s legacy to the community he so loved.
We provide 2 giveaways each month to residents in need within our community and surrounding service areas. We continue to support our clients' nutritional needs and aim to provide education on the overall benefits of proper nutrition and good personal hygiene. It is the mission of the John Buck Memorial Community Food Bank to serve people who live in Columbia County on a first-come, first-served basis, assisting in relieving hunger by providing supplemental food, fresh produce, hygiene & personal care, and cleaning items to individuals in need living in the local communities.
With the current economic situation, we are seeing our numbers grow extremely fast, so your donation can make a dramatic impact to fight hunger and provide essential resources to those in need. With the growing number of families relying on our services, your donation is more important than ever.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us provide healthy and nutritious foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, frozen meats, and pantry staples, as well as essential personal hygiene products.

The John Buck Memorial Community Food Bank exists to ensure that no neighbor in our community goes hungry or without basic necessities. We are dedicated to alleviating hunger by providing supplemental food, fresh produce, hygiene products, personal care, and cleaning essentials to individuals and families in need. Serving on a first-come, first-served basis, we offer not only nourishment, but compassion, dignity, and hope.
Hunger doesn’t just mean an empty pantry — it means parents skipping meals so their children can eat. It means seniors choosing between groceries and medication. It means families quietly struggling to make ends meet.
At the John Buck Memorial Community Food Bank, we see these realities every day.
Through our bi-monthly food distributions and emergency assistance, we provide more than groceries. We provide relief. We provide stability. We provide the reassurance that someone cares.
Columbia County families who visit us receive fresh fruits and vegetables, nutritious staples, and frozen meats — foods that nourish both body and spirit. They also receive essential hygiene, personal care, and cleaning items that many assistance programs overlook but are critical to maintaining dignity and health.
We believe access to healthy food and basic necessities is not a privilege — it is a fundamental need. Our commitment goes beyond distribution; we strive to educate our community about healthy eating and proper hygiene, empowering families to build stronger, healthier futures.
This work is only possible because of the generosity of donors, partners, and grant supporters who believe in caring for their neighbors. As economic challenges continue to impact local families, the need grows — and so does our determination to serve.
When you support the John Buck Memorial Community Food Bank, you are not just giving food.
You are giving comfort to a worried parent.
You are giving strength to a struggling senior.
You are giving hope to a neighbor in need.
Together, we can continue to ensure that no one in our community faces hunger alone.
