Who We Are

For over 100 years, Girl Scouts has been a leader in providing character-building programming for girls of all interests and backgrounds. Girl Scouts prepares girls for a lifetime of leadership—from taking a night-time hike under the stars to accepting a mission on the International Space Station; from lobbying the city council with her troop to holding a seat in Congress; from running her own cookie business today to owning a million-dollar business tomorrow.

As the premier leadership development organization for girls in grades K-12, Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania offers a wide variety of leadership development programming designed exclusively for the ways girls learn and lead. By blending education with life skill development, girls gain essential experiences that foster their self-confidence, skills, and character. Girls learn the value of community service and put what they learn in Girl Scouts to use, making their communities happier and healthier places to live.

Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment. Girl Scouts is a place where each girl will practice different skills, explore her potential, and take on leadership positions, all while feeling allowed to fail, dust herself off, get up, and try again. Girl Scouts takes the potential of girls, combines it with robust skill-building programming, and adds caring adult mentors and strong female role models.

GSHPA is committed to providing this life-changing education to all girls, and especially to reaching girls from underserved communities who traditionally do not have access to the type of leadership development programming we offer.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA) proudly serves more than 1,300 girls with the dedicated support of more than 850 adult volunteers across Lancaster County.
